Salt is vital for our health - but not all salts the same!

Salt has been treasured throughout time. It's vital for maintaining your health - yet we constantly hear bad things about salt. Refined salt is indeed very unhealthy.  However, your body needs natural salts to function properly.

Refined salt - the facts

The majority of refined salt enters our bodies through ready meals, savoury snacks, processed meats, dairy products, canned foods and fermented foods. Refined salt is blasted with heat, changing its very structure. After it is "chemically cleaned", it has lost the life force of the essential minerals and trace elements. Additives such as dextrose and bleaching agents create a product that, far from being naturally alive with minerals, is in fact a dead chemical. Other additives can include Aluminium Hydroxide (an anti caking agent),  Iodine and Fluoride. All of these additives and lack of vital minerals can lead to many health problems, including poor kidney function, gout, rheumatism, arthritis, thyroid disorders, Aldheimer's, Parkinson's disease and bone loss. Plus, our bodies sacrifice precious energy metabolising refined salt.

How much salt do we need?

An adult should eat no more than 6g of salt a day.  Sodium is one of the chemicals in salt, and 1g of sodium is the same as 2.5g of salt. So an adult should eat no more than 2.4g of Sodium or 6g of Salt.

Not all salts are the same

Table Salt - common table salt is a highly refined product and one of the worst junk foods.  Virtually all its trace minerals are missing so that it is almost pure sodium chloride.  The remaining waste product is often enriched with poor-quality iodine.  Aluminum, a toxic metal, is added as a flowing agent.  It may be bleached for whiteness with other toxic chemicals.  It is an unbalanced, toxic product that should be avoided.

Sea Salt - approximately 80% of the supplied sea salt on the market is refined, bleached and chemically treated.  Another problem is the pollution of the micro organisms of our seas and contamination with heavy metals.

Himalayan Crystal Salt - this is the purest, highest grade salt available, formed for over million years without exposure to pollution, and mined by hand deep below the mountain range. It contains a staggering 84 minerals and trace elements that our body needs to maintain our health. It is pristine - with no preservatives or additives. It is therefore easily absorbed into the body and doesn’t leave deposits in organs and tissues that lead to illness and diseases. The distinctive rose pink colour of Himalayan Crystal Salt comes from its high mineral content, which includes iron, potassium and magnesium, all of which are vital for maintaining health (see below). With its high nutritional value, Himalayan Crystal Salt has life generating power both for the body and the nervous system, and is becoming more frequently used by health professionals to treat a wide range of health issues.

The Health Benefits of Himalayan Crystal Salt

In proper proportion to water; this pure natural mineral-rich salt has many health benefits. It can:
- regulate blood pressure
- balance blood sugar levels
- boost energy levels
- regulate the metabolism
- keep the system alkaline
- help the body to absorb nutrients
- maintain electrolyte balance
- enable the liver, kidneys and adrenal glands to function effectively
- prevent muscle cramps, dizziness, exhaustion and convulsions
- flush mucus and congestion (especially useful for asthma and cystic fibrosis sufferers)
- keep the bones and body strong (helping with osteoporosis)
- help brain cells to function
- help to regulate sleep
- enable proper digestion
- support the immune system
- act as a natural anti-histamine
- reduce varicose veins
- reduce our excess saliva, which can be the cause of increased bulk on the chin, cheeks and neck

How Himalayan Crystal Salt can heal

JOINT PROBLEMS: Minerals have an alkalising effect on the body. Natural health practitioners have observed that this has an anti-inflammatory effect, easing painful conditions such as arthritis.

BACK PAIN: Whether you eat or bathe in them, mineral-rich salts tend to relax. This is largely due to magnesium, which is needed for the muscles to relax. Low levels of magnesium are associated with muscle cramps. Replacing table salt with Himalayan Crystal Salt could help alleviate these.

BONE STRENGTH
: Unrefined rock salts are rich in minerals needed for bone strength. Apart from calcium, bones use phosphorus, magnesium and other minerals as building materials.

PMS:
Mineral-rich salts can help ease PMS in two ways. The muscle-relaxing effects of magnesium combined with potassium, which helps the body get rid of excess water, can ease water retention and relieve muscular tension.

Sodium Chloride, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium - the facts

Himalayan Crystal salt contains 84 minerals and trace elements needed by the body, including sodium chloride, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Himalayan Crystal Salt is one of the very few natural salts that contain the important minerals to balance our health conditions. Our Original Water&Salt brand is labeled with nutrient contents and certified. Ordinary supermarket table salt has been stripped of its companion elements and contains additive elements such as aluminium silicate to keep it powdery and porous. Aluminium is a very toxic element in our nervous system. It is implicated as one of the primary causes of Alzheimer’s disease.

Sodium Chloride: Sodium is an essential nutrient; the body cannot manufacture sodium, yet is it is required for life itself. Chloride is also vital for optimum health; it preserves the acid-base balance in the body, aids potassium absorption, supplies the essence of digestive stomach acid, and enhances the ability of the blood to carry carbon dioxide from respiratory tissues to the lungs. We need some sodium in our diets to transport nutrients around the body, transmit nerve impulses and contract muscles, especially the heart.  However, it needs to be combined with potassium, calcium and magnesium for it to have the desired effect.

Potassium: Potassium helps to lower blood pressure by balancing out the negative effects of salt.

Magnesium: One of the most important minerals missing from refined table salt is magnesium.  Magnesium is required for over 500 enzymes, and is deficient in most people's diets. Magnesium has a balancing effect on sodium and has a relaxing influence on the heart, which is often the first element given during a heart attack.

Sodium is an electrolyte, as are potassium, calcium and magnesium.  These elements together play an important part in regulating the electrical charges that flow in and out of the cells in your body, which helps nerve impulses to be sent around the body.
